Recently the United States of America celebrated Memorial Day, also known as, the day of the fallen soldiers. It is a holiday that was instated on May 30, 1968 by the order of President Lyndon B. Johnson. On this day we remember the men and women who dedicated their lives in the different wars this country has fought. Men and women who had a deep conviction and who were willing to give their lives for their country. On September 11, 2001 we saw another group of men giving their lives and killing others for their deep conviction they had to please their god, Allah. A few days ago I had the pleasure of reading the book "Radical" written by Dr. David Platt. In one of his chapters he tells us that he had to preach in a graduation ceremony in a Baptist seminary in a country with one of the highest Muslim populations (a country where preaching the gospel is illegal). Dr. Platt shares that as a pre-requisite to graduating each student had to have planted a church with at least 30 baptized members. When all the graduates had come up on stage there was a request for a minute of silence to honor 2 students who, while planting their churches, were murdered. I have to be honest with you, this brought tears to my eyes. In the book of Hebrews we can read a long list of men and women who were willing to give their lives for the best cause we can. In Chapter 11:36-38 we are told of the cruel way they were killed. "Some faced jeers, and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground."And in verse 16 it says, "Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God." In the Christian life we don't have a memorial day for the fallen soldier of God. But if we did celebrate it do you think your name would be there like a soldier who has a deep conviction to be willing to give his life for our savior? Verse 16 says, for this reason God is not ashamed to be called their God. Is he ashamed of you, or is He proud of you? I invite you to become a radical soldier for the Lord's army.
