According to Proverbs 14:1,
"The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down." (NIV) God asks us to be builders. This is the only profession in which we don't need a diploma. Here are some women who 'tore' theirs down and some who 'built' theirs up.
Eve
- Tore hers down. Eve didn't measure the distance between temptation and loyalty to God and her husband.
Jezebel
- Tore hers down. Jezebel loved power; power that didn't come from God. She was a murderer, a manipulator, committed forgery, and was a worshipper of Baal.
Delilah
- Tore hers down. She was vain and money-hungry. Delilah was not loyal, she was deceitful and tore down the love that Samson felt for her.
Jochebed
- Built hers up. Jochebed protected her son from death. She also taught him divine principles that God had taught His people.
Lois and Eunice
- Built theirs up. Mother and Grandmother of Timothy; Paul was very surprised by the faith they had instilled in Timothy.
Hannah
- Built hers up. She was faithful and loyal to God. She kept her promise to Him and dedicated her son's life to the Lord.
The building materials we need are not cement, rebar, measuring tape, any kind of physical tools or heavy machinery. But in Proverbs 14:1 God tells us the tools we need to build. The other tool is teaching our children the Word of God.
"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and your gates." Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (NIV)
The three tools that God gives us to build our house are:
1. Wisdom
2. Teaching our kids the word of God
3. Laying our foundation on the Rock that is Jesus Christ.
"They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built." Luke 6:48 (NIV)
The good news is that God has given us these tools we need for free. I want you to diligently try to find them in the Word of God. His Word says he will give them to us in abundance. My wish is that you may build a precious house not for men's eyes but for the eyes of the Lord.
Sincerely,
