If I asked you what was the main purpose of praying how would you answer? The main purpose of prayer is to give glory to God.
"And I will do whatever you ask in
my name, so that the Father may
be glorified in the Son."
John 14:13
In Genesis chapter 22, one of the most fascinating stories of the Bible is when God manifested His glory by providing Abraham something to sacrifice. Each prayer request and each situation that originates the request is, in reality, an opportunity to experience first-hand the glory of God. Because, when He answers He reveals His glory. In John 11:32b, both of Lazarus' sisters told Jesus,
"Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." Why did Jesus let Lazarus die? He could've just spoken the words to prevent Lazarous from dying even from many miles away. Or, He could've made it there before Lazarus died. But, He allowed him to die so that the Father would be glorified in the events that followed.
"When he heard this, Jesus said, '
"This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it'" John 11:4. In his first letter Peter says,
"...that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 4:11b)
So when you pray for something, ask God that He may be glorified in His answer through your requests.
"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13)
