Do you know the real meaning of Thanksgiving? (To give thanks for what we have.) I want to share with you two principles about Thanksgiving and will try not to use my own words but God's Word to better explain.
Principle #1.
OWNERSHIP - who is the owner?
"
The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it." Psalm 24:1;
"Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth andhonor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all." 1 Chronicles 29:11-12; "But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today." Deuteronomy 8:18; "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread." Psalm 37:25; " And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19; " For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?" 1 Corinthians 4:7.
Knowing that we've received everything from the Lord we must reflect on the 2nd principle.
Principle #2. RESPONSIBILITY - If we've received all we have from God what is our responsibility with what we have?
"Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine." Proverbs 3:9-10; "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Acts 20:35; "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Corinthians 9:6-8; "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done." Proverbs 19:17.
I hope that on this Thanksgiving these verses will help you be more thankful to God for what He has given you and that you may be able to give more.
