Summer is almost over and we have a couple of days to sit and reflect on all that God has done. What an amazing and awesome God we serve! We’ve already seen many remarkable miracles this year! Most of you have kept up through our previous newsletters about Tony and the situation he faced. This situation was particularly hard on Tony, but our staff is a family and we all hurt and ached alongside him. Besides Tony’s situation, everyone on staff experienced personal trials. Some mornings we might’ve wanted to stay in our homes, spend time praying and reading His Word, and sometimes just weeping into our pillows. Through God’s grace, we all managed to find the strength to get up and continue ministering alongside each team.
Teams are such an encouragement for us. They remind us that we are not in this alone and that someone traveled thousands of miles to stand with us and minister to the people of Guatemala. We saw many people make a public profession that Jesus is the Son of God, that He made the ultimate sacrifice to die on the cross so that we may have eternal life. “In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” Luke 15:10. One sinner, one. One single soul can bring joy to the angels in heaven. All the work, all the teams, the hundreds of people we’ve hosted this year, the logistics, the planning, the late nights and early mornings -- if this was all for one soul, then it has been worth it. We give God all the praise and glory!
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”
Jeremiah 29:11
One of the most well-known verses in the Bible is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” What does the word ‘prosper’ mean to you? With all due respect, I feel that we as Christians sometimes either get confused with this word or we know it from a worldly point of view. For many, prosperity is measured in how big your house is, how nice your car is, or how much money you have in the bank. But the truth is, the Bible talks about what true riches are. “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” 1 Timothy 6:17

I encourage you to not let yourself be fooled by false teachers who teach that our prosperity is measured in materials and/or finances. NO! True prosperity is worth so much more. “Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.” Proverbs 15:17
JUANITA

Unfortunately, we have some not so great news to share but we also have some really great news to share. First the not so great news is that Juanita’s eye tumor has returned. It took a few days but we were finally able to get her in to see the doctor. All the doctors were shocked at how fast the tumor had grown. They decided to give her some medicines and asked that we bring her back a week later. Well that day was yesterday. The doctors couldn’t believe how much it had grown in just a week and sent her to have an MRI and blood tests. The results show she needs urgent surgery. Due to the severity of her case they are having a specialist from a different hospital come to do the operation. He’s a very busy doctor but he is trying to get to the hospital either Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week. We were hoping for a confirmation today but when we called they said we’d have to call back Monday.

Now, the really great news. At first we were told that the surgery will cost around US$2,000 and that this can go up once they determine the medicines she will need and length of treatment. This morning we received a call that they are not going to charge for the surgery! Praise the Lord! We know this is truly from God! Now, we’ll only need to cover expenses for her meds, her and her mom to travel to the hospital, meals, and for their return home. Isn’t God good?!

We’re not sure why Juanita’s tumor is growing again but the doctors say they’ll know more once they operate and, hopefully, get clearer answers. For now, we are the Great Physician and the doctors He has laid in our path. Please, pray for complete healing for Juanita, pray for God to guide the doctors as they operate on her, and pray that this tumor will be gone once and for all. After surgery they will be sending it to pathology so please pray that everything comes back negative and that Juanita will live a long healthy life. We know that many of you love her as much as we do. She’s a special little girl and we pray that she will use her trials as a testimony for God as she grows.
ABUELITOS BUILDING

We wanted to share some pictures with all of you of the progress; we praise God as each team has been such a huge help in the construction of this building. To God be the glory!

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:36
