And in the blink of an eye, January is gone! One month down, eleven to go! January is always a very busy month for Impacto. It’s a fresh start to a new year. School is getting ready to start, Happy Tummies (4 locations) opens back up, Abuelitos start meeting again, and scheduling for trainings, congresses, conferences, camps, and other ministries also take place.
One of the ministries we have been planning for these past few weeks is, Prison Ministry. Last year we were able to send boxes of medicine, with antibiotics, ointments, over the counter medications and much more. Medication in prison is extremely hard to get; it is basically almost nonexistent. We were also able to send dozens of Bibles! We know nothing will encourage and/or convict the men more than the Word of God. Nothing will speak the truth clearer and louder to them than the Bible. With the Bibles we were able to send boxes of reading glasses. With the tiny amount of sunlight these men receive you can only imagine what that’s done to their eyesight. The men were so happy, they never thought they’d be able to get reading glasses in there, and for free! Another way we’ve been able to support these men is by sending an abundance of food. The government supplies “food” to the prison, yet most of it is way past the expiration date and/or rotten. We have sent boxes and boxes with staple food items they are able to cook themselves and eat a delicious, healthy meal.
You may be asking yourself, why are they helping prisoners, criminals don’t deserve charity. Well, did you know that about 35% of those in jail are innocent? Here in Guatemala, it is ‘guilty until proven innocent’. Also, many of these men don’t have the means, resources, or funds needed to pay for a lawyer that will have their best interest. Not to mention in Hebrews 13:3a it says, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison.”
Please join us as we remember those in prison, as we show them though actions the immense love Christ has for them. Thank you for your support and for believing in what Impacto does.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith –
and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8
This past week I had the privilege to preach to 350 students at a church’s private school in northern Virginia. One of the topics was faith, and one of the students asked me to explain to him what faith was. I shared the following story with him.
One time, a man who was afraid to fly had to travel by plane. During the flight, there was a lot of turbulence, and the man was very scared. Next to him, a twelve-year-old was relaxed, enjoying the flight with a smile on his face. Once the flight landed, the frightened man asked the boy, why were you not nervous? You didn’t seem scared at all! The boy replied to the man, I was not afraid because the pilot is my dad. We can say that this is faith, when you invite Christ to be the pilot of your life, it doesn’t matter when there is turbulence; you will be sure that your Father will always keep you safe.
